I'm just finishing up THE TEENAGE BRAIN.
It's really interesting and gives the readers the latest research on brain development and how teen brains are really very immature.
A valuable resource moms.
ALSO started THE PLOUGHMEN.
Haven't gotten far but it's very dark with writing that is reminiscent of Cormac McCarthy.
You?
I'm going to be starting my very first audio book ever at lunch today. I brought along a paper copy just in case I have problems paying attention to just a voice.
ReplyDeleteAfter taking a break to read The Martian (which I finished last night), I'll be getting back to Losing Our Way by Bob Herbert. After that I should start Odysseus: The Oath, since my review is already overdue. And I may read a tiny bit of what's possibly the worst book I've ever read, Marry Smart by the Princeton Mom. I've come too far to stop now, but I can only tolerate it in small doses.
ReplyDeleteOooh, the Odysseus book looks good.
DeleteAs for 'marry smart' I have book you that might throw your Princeton Mom into sharp contrast. It was written in the late 1800s. If you're interested I'll try to track it down :)
Sure, I'm always happy to hear about other books, if it's not too much trouble for you to find it! That said, it may be a while before I read anything else on this topic....
DeleteI've got Teenage Brain next up in my non-fic queue, and Trust Me I'm Lying for fiction. However, most of what i'm reading is my own words as i attempt NaNoWriMo.
ReplyDeleteI think you'll like it. Although by the time Thing1 and Thing2 get to be teens the science might have changed...
DeleteMy kindle book is Blue Labyrinth by Preston and Child. Pendergast is back in form and the book is terrific so far! My Dead Tree book is Princess of Thorns by Stacey Jay. It takes off where the Sleeping Beauty tale often ends. I say often, because I've read the story of Beauty's children once before, but this one is markedly different. So far, so good...
ReplyDeleteI too am finishing "The Teenage Brain" and have found it informative. I agree that it is a must-read for parents and educators, and will be saying so soon in my review.
ReplyDeleteMeantime, I've been stretching my days to make room for blocks of time for Roger Cohen's "The Girl from Human Street," which Knopf will be publishing in mid-January. I am at the halfway mark; thus far, it is beautiful and captivating and bittersweet, with hints of what lies ahead. I'm impressed by Cohen's ability to make speedy readers slow down so as to absorb nuances and details.
Enjoying "When Books Went to War," a Vine pick.
ReplyDeleteI just finished a memoir by Thomas Menino, Mayor of Boston, and am about to start Richard Ford's new book, 'Let Me Be Frank With You.'
ReplyDeleteWorking my way through The Best American Travel Writing 2014 at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI loved The Teenage Brain and have been blogging chapbook notes on my blog. Exactly what I wanted to know with research citations.
